Everything You Need To Know
Prime Gaming is Amazon’s revamp of Twitch Prime, and it rewards gamers with tons of free content every single month. Just for being a subscriber to Amazon Prime. If you already subscribe to Prime for any other reason, like the free two-day shipping and discounts on all kinds of products, Prime Gaming rewards are just another freebie from Amazon to sweeten the deal. So, if you play games, you might as well take advantage of this benefit.
It’s essentially Amazon’s way of giving back to gamers with a bunch of free stuff. And it’s something you should definitely take advantage of if you enjoy playing video games. Because there can be some pretty sweet rewards in there. Amazon is tossing in some new stuff on the Prime Gaming page pretty consistently.
What is Prime Gaming really, though? In this post, we break down the ins and outs of the service. What it costs, who has access, what the benefits are, and more. Prime Gaming is not a new service. Even before its name change from Twitch Prime several years ago, it had already been around for a few years.
What are Amazon Prime Gaming rewards?
Prime Gaming is a gaming-centric offering from Amazon for Prime membership subscribers with rewards like free games. Before Prime Gaming, it was known as Twitch Prime.
But Amazon seems to have felt that more people were unfamiliar with Twitch than people who were familiar. Just about everyone, however, knows what Prime is in relation to Amazon. So, dropping the Twitch and slapping “gaming” on the end perhaps makes things a little clearer for those who are already longtime Amazon shoppers.
With Prime Gaming, you get a series of rewards for various games. These rewards are rotating and are not always the same. And not all rewards stick around for the same length of time as others. But the rewards are always something useful for some of the most popular games on all platforms. Including mobile.
To put it another way, Prime Gaming is a collection of perks for gamers that allow them to claim free in-game content for the games they know and love to play.
What kinds of benefits does Prime Gaming offer?
There are two main benefits you get from Prime Gaming. Both are equally exciting and span across a wide range of game types and cater to just as wide a range of players.
The first, yet least prominent, set of benefits is the in-game content. Amazon and Twitch (which is owned by Amazon) used to give away a constantly rotating set of in-game content. It was different for each game, and the games included were always changing, too.
You would see it in the form of in-game currency. Some of it would be the normal currency you can earn by playing. Sometimes, you would also get premium currency that you normally have to pay for.
Sometimes you would get item boosts, XP boosts, and other aesthetic stuff. Such as in-game costumes or gear. Really, it would vary. All of that being said, Amazon has changed things up a bit with this. Amazon no longer offers tons of in-game content with Prime Gaming for its rewards. It hasn’t cut out in-game content entirely; it’s just much rarer. For example, I noticed several months ago that in-game content was not included in that particular month’s Prime Gaming rewards for Amazon Prime subscribers. Now, however, Amazon is offering one reward in the form of in-game content. It’s a Legendary Rapport Chest for Lost Ark players. This makes sense, given that Amazon Game Studios publishes this game in the US. Sadly, this is the only in-game content that’s included right now.
Free, full games to add to your library
In addition to in-game content, Prime Gaming rewards from Amazon will also include free games. This is usually monthly. The free games are also the major bulk of the content with Prime Gaming now. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, though. There are always lots of free games being added, and with the list rotating pretty consistently, there’s usually something new to grab. For instance, right now you can grab Marvel’s Midnight Suns. This is a free, full copy of the game from the Epic Games Store. It’s totally worth it as the game is pretty good. It’s especially fun if you enjoyed games like XCOM and XCOM 2.
With free games being the majority of the rewards, Prime Gaming always tends to have at least one title worth checking out. If you haven’t been back to the Prime Gaming page in a while, I highly recommend browsing through it to see if there are any games you like. You can claim these directly on the Prime Gaming page, then redeem them from their respective game clients.
Free Games With Prime
When it comes to games, there are quite a few that are currently available. It is worth keeping in mind, however, that all of these games will only be available for a certain period of time. What’s more, the dates won’t be the same for each game. Some stick around for longer periods of time than others. So, with that in mind, you’ll want to check the games that you’re interested in to see how long they’re available.
For specific titles, there are currently 19 games available for free. Again, these won’t all be free forever. Some will be removed in the next few weeks. So keep an eye on them. Right now, you’ll be able to claim Saints Row 2, Saints Row IV, Endless Space 2: Definitive Edition, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Heroes of Loot, Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, Besiege + The Splintered Sea DLC, I Love Finding Wild Friends – CE, Venba, TOEM, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Paquerette Down the Bunburrows, Boxes: Lost Fragments, Stray Gods: Orpheus, Station to Station, Liberte, The Abandoned Planet, and Doors: Paradox.
Free in-game loot
As mentioned earlier, there is currently only one set of rewards for in-game loot available to Amazon Prime Gaming subscribers. This includes a Legendary Rapport Chest for Lost Ark. This reward is only available to claim until August 20. So, if you play Lost Ark and want some free loot, you’ll need to claim it by that date.
How much does Prime Gaming cost?
The service by itself costs absolutely nothing. The reason for that is that a Prime Gaming membership is just an Amazon Prime membership. It’s all part of the same package of benefits that you get by subscribing to Amazon Prime.
Like the service that Amazon offers with “Prime” in the name, it’s part of the Amazon Prime membership subscription. Which means if you subscribe to Prime Gaming or to Amazon Prime, you’re basically subscribing to the other one too, as they’re just different sections of the same subscription.
All that being said, subscribing to Prime for these benefits is going to cost $14.99 a month, or $139 annually. All things considered, this is a pretty good price if you happen to shop on Amazon often enough, and it’s even better value if you take advantage of Prime Video.
Is the in-game content cross-platform?
This will depend entirely on the game itself. But in some cases, yes. It is possible. For now, because Lost Ark is the only game that has an in-game reward, the answer is no. However, if Amazon ever offers more Prime Gaming rewards that consist of in-game content, then there is a chance that it would be cross-platform. It all depends on the game and if it’s available on multiple platforms, and if your progress is cross-platform as well.
How do I know when offers will end?
If you go to the page where all of the offers are, each offer has a date listed with it. So all you have to do is look at the card for the offers you’re interested in, and it’ll be displayed at the bottom of that card.
Using Lost Ark as the example, the current offer that is available can be claimed until August 20, 2025. At which point it will be gone, and a new offer may pop up soon after for the new month.
Make sure you take note of these dates so you don’t miss out. This goes for the free full games as well as any in-game content.
Where can I claim the rewards once I’m in-game?
As soon as you claim the rewards on the Prime Gaming page, you’ll be met with a larger pop-up card on the same page that will tell you where to claim the items once you’re in-game.
There’s not much else to it besides that. Simply read where the items will be dropped off, and once you launch the game, go pick them up, and you’re good to go.
Do the rewards ever expire?
Generally no. In most cases, the in-game offers that pop up will be yours to keep forever, or until you use the items if they’re consumables like XP boosts.
But in some cases, the offers will be for items that only last for a certain period of time. In the past, when there was more in-game content rewards offered, some were for games that came along with a limited-time access period. Meaning, you only had access to that in-game content for a set amount of time before it would be removed from your inventory in the game it was for. That isn’t the case right now, but it could be in the future.
How do I play the games that I claim?
It used to be that games you claimed through Prime Gaming would be installed directly to your Windows PC. If they were Windows games to begin with.
Now, though, games that you claim will be for specific game clients. For example, Marvel’s Midnight Suns is claimable as a free title, but it’s for the Epic Games Store specifically. That means that it won’t be the Steam version of the game, or the version from any other PC game client where it’s available.
Are there any other benefits of Prime Gaming?
Yes. By being a member, you will also get one free subscription to a Twitch streamer of your choice.
For streamers on the Twitch platform, one way they can make money is by having viewers subscribe to their channel. Which results in the subscriber getting some rewards for Twitch, like special emotes and more.
Normally these subscriptions cost $5. But as a Prime Gaming member you will get one of these $5 subs for free to spend how you like. You will get one per month to use on the channel of your choice. Whether it’s the same channel or not. If it’s the same channel you will have to re-subscribe since it’s not tied to a payment method with auto-payment set up. So keep that in mind as well.
