In a scathing response to a request by DMK MPs to speak in English due to a technical glitch in the translator system, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Tuesday refused to do so and said it is a “foreign language”.
Speaking in Hindi during the ongoing monsoon session in Parliament, Dubey chided the DMK for “promoting” the English language and said if this keeps happening, “we will become England” and turn into “slaves” once again.

Dubey further accused the DMK of only being against the Hindi language, claiming the ruling party in Tamil Nadu did not have a problem when another MP spoke in Bengali for half an hour. He took this opportunity to criticise the Congress and its allies, saying they “don’t like North Indians or Hindi”.

“…It would have been better if you had asked me to speak in Tamil or Bengali. English is a foreign language, and your insistence on it reflects your mindset,” Dubey said after the technical glitch surfaced and Tamil Nadu MPs requested him to speak in English.
“Someone spoke in Bengali for half an hour, yet Tamil Nadu MPs didn’t object. You only have a problem with Hindi. Congress and its allies don’t like North Indians or Hindi,” he said in Hindi, while responding to the DMK. “If you keep promoting English, we’ll end up becoming England. Hum phir se ghulaam ban jayenge (We will become slaves again)…”

When BJP MP Dilip Saikia, who was in the Chair, told him that it was simply a technical issue with the system, Dubey said that is a “Lok Sabha problem” and has nothing to do with him.
“I know how to speak in Hindi and I will speak in Hindi, just because you’re saying it, I won’t speak in English,” he added.
