Former Australia all-rounder Jason Gillespie has ruled out the possibility of taking up a full-time coaching role following his brief and tumultuous stint with the Pakistan men’s national cricket team.

Gillespie was appointed head coach of Pakistan’s Test team in April 2024 but resigned in December, citing being “blindsided” by decisions made behind his back by the team management.

Speaking to Wisden, Gillespie admitted that the experience had left him disillusioned, stating that even if Australia were to approach him for a coaching position, his answer would be a firm no.

The former pacer also noted that his brief time as interim white-ball coach for Pakistan, after Gary Kirsten’s resignation, exposed a lack of communication with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Gillespie confessed that his time with Pakistan had left a sour taste in his coaching career. “The Pakistan experience has soured my love for coaching, I’ll be honest,” he said. However, he is open to short-term coaching opportunities, particularly in T20 leagues or as a consultant. “Full-time coaching right now is not on my agenda,” he added.

Gillespie, who has been coaching for over 15 years, revealed that he is ready to explore new avenues.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s national team has struggled in recent performances, most recently suffering a whitewash in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, as well as a 4-1 loss in the T20I series.
